In-Demand Skills Stream

The immigration program places a greater emphasis on regional demand than on occupational skill levels. Most of Canada immigration program focus on “high skilled jobs,” but Ontario has a labor deficit. As a result, it is classified as “low skilled.”

Foreign nationals with eligible job offer in Ontario can apply for a nomination if they have worked in the province for nine months in the previous three years. Seasonal workers are not eligible for the work requirement, although part-time workers may be provided, they fulfill the minimum number of hours.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • A high school diploma,
  • A language proficiency score of at least 4 in all areas
  • Enough settlement funds

In Ontario, the immigration system is based on a points system.

The province of Ontario ranks EOI profiles based on various human capital factors, including:

  • Education
  • Wage
  • Proficiency in an official language
  • The region where you study or work

To respond to labor market needs, the province can give an additional ten points at its discretion.

More information about the Stream of In-Demand Skills

Provincial demands take precedence over professional skill levels in this category. Many immigration programs target “highly skilled” jobs, as defined by the government. Despite this, Ontario continues to experience labor shortages in “low skilled” occupations. If a foreign employee has worked in Ontario for at least nine months in the preceding three years and has a qualified employment offer, they can apply for a nomination. Seasonal labor does not count toward achieving the essential work requirement.

If the individual meets the minimal work hour requirements, they may be considered for a part-time job. However, labor hours must equal 1200 hours of paid employment in one or two occupations over 18 months to meet the requirement. Individuals who had several jobs, on the other hand, would have to labor at least 30 hours each week for nine months, totaling approximately 1200 hours.High school graduation, a language score of at least 4 in all proficiencies, and adequate settlement money are other requirements for eligibility.
